The story

RETIRED-
Paths to Peace Settlers were no strangers to war. This quilt block represents the paths in George Ward’s life that eventually led to peace. Despite his active duty in the military, Ward’s service led to peace and prosperity for this area.
Ward’s life and actions were instrumental in the development of our settlement on the Longwoods path. The path’s expansion allowed it to be heavily used during wartime. Dispatch riders carrying documents with orders, peace declarations and negotiations traversed the Longwoods path.
This quilt block is a reminder of peace and war. It symbolizes our plea that all paths to and from Wardsville be paths of peace.
